WEBINAR

Translating AMR Surveillance into Public Health Actions

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Saudi Arabia time (UTC+3)

8:00 AM – 12:00 PM in the UK & Ireland

October 22nd, 2026

Thursday

This webinar brings together international experts to explore how genomics, epidemiology, and One Health surveillance can identify emerging AMR threats, track transmission, guide targeted interventions, strengthen outbreak response, and support evidence-based public health decision-making. Drawing on work across clinical, food-chain, and built-environment settings, the speakers will show how genomic and epidemiological evidence is being turned into interventions, outbreak control, and policy – and what still stands in the way.

Target Audiences

Public health practitioners, epidemiologists, clinical microbiologists, infection prevention and control teams, researchers, and policymakers working on AMR.

Objectives

  1. Translate AMR surveillance data into practical public health actions and interventions.
  2. Highlight the role of genomics in detecting transmission, high-risk clones, and emerging resistance.
  3. Demonstrate how One Health surveillance integrates human, animal, food, and environmental AMR data.
  4. Explore how genomic and surveillance systems can support real-time public health decision-making.
  5. Identify key challenges and opportunities in moving from AMR data generation to action.

Introduction to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

AMR 101

Introduction to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

Course Description

This course provides a foundational understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), focusing on its mechanisms, impact, and the critical roles of antimicrobial stewardship and surveillance. Designed for Clinical microbiologist, Clinicians, Infection Control Nurse, Clinical Pharmacist, AMS leadership team etc.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the burden of AMR, mechanism and factors responsible in healthcare settings, both global and local perspective.
  • Purpose and processes of AMR surveillance and their role.
  • Fundamentals of antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Importance of patients’ risk stratification, de-escalation, or escalation approach in empiric choice of antimicrobials driven on local evidence.
  • National policy and local hospital specific policies to deploy appropriate antimicrobials, to improve outcomes and minimize AMR.
  • Effective communication module to manage behavioural changes.

Target Audience

Microbiologists, pharmacists, infection control nurses, physicians, surgeons, and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) teams.
